Inspiring And Enabling People
To Make A Difference
First of all, thanks to everyone who took part in the survey I conducted asking you to share your top time challenges as we enter the second decade of the 21st Century. In total, I have surveyed, interviewed and discussed the Top challenges with over 1000 people on Ecademy, LinkedIn and Facebook. As promised, over the next 5 days, to coincide with the launch of the book which addresses these points, I’ll share your Top 5.
NO.5 – Information Overload
It seems that not only is the paperless society a long forgotten dream, but the notion that digital media will put us in control of what we see, hear and digest is also vague aspiration!
Estimates vary, but it is fair to say that every day we are bombarded by millions of messages through, radio, tv, the internet, physical and subliminal advertising, branding, social media, email, mobile and even the post. The capacity of our brains to filter all of this is phenomenal but you told me (in your droves) that you still feel more than bit overwhelmed.
Systems are popping up everywhere to help us (even your post can be pre-filtered to free up access to your front door) and certainly digital tools like My6Sense and the new friend filter on Facebook can reduce the noise but it would appear that the mere fact that we receive more information in one day than many of our ancestors did in a lifetime is making many feel that they are fighting a losing battle.
However, there is hope; through a sneaky combination of Stephen Covey, Mark Foster and Nike’s famous slogan (other brands of sporting footwear are available) we can create purposeful, time limited, schedules for the bulk of our interaction with information and then Just Do It!
See you tomorrow for No.4 in your list.
